New technologies can help e-commerce sites to boost their sales by bringing together the various components of the online shopping experience, according to one expert.
Jarrod Rogers, chief executive of co-browsing technology provider Sesh, told Internet Retailer that it is possible for e-commerce firms to use the growth of social networking to enhance web users' online shopping activities.
His own company makes a product that enables retailers to encourage users to invite other shoppers to their website and browse and annotate products in real-time.
One site, Novica, said that it had seen a positive response from customers since introducing the technology on its own site.
Mr Rogers commented: "Technology that can marry socialising, display advertising and shopping can bridge the gap between social networks and generating revenue, for retailers and social networks."
UK consumers have spent a collective £200 billion on internet shopping in the last nine years, according to IMRG.
