A new search engine has been launched by software giant Microsoft in its latest effort to step up its online strategy.

Search tool Bing is what Microsoft describes as a "decision engine", which will allow users to make faster, more informed decisions.

Initially, the search engine will focus on four key areas, including planning trips, finding local businesses, making purchasing decisions and researching a health condition.

Steve Ballmer, chief executive at Microsoft, explained that Bing will provide users with more useful information than current search engines.

"Bing is an important first step forward in our long-term effort to deliver innovations in search that enable people to find information quickly and use the information they've found to accomplish tasks and make smart decisions," Mr Ballmer said.

Bing will be rolled out over the next few days, to be launched worldwide on June 3rd.

Analyst from independent research group Directions on Microsoft Matt Rossoff told the Associated Press that the software giant may be able to increase its share of the search market through Bing's new features.
